How to play Disc Golf Rush

Disc Golf Rush is a free disc golf game for the browser. Pick a disc, aim your line, time the power meter and get the disc into the basket in as few throws as you can.

The basics

Every hole starts on the tee. Aim by turning the player, pick a disc and tap to start the power meter. Tap again to set the power: the yellow BASKET line on the meter shows the power that reaches the basket. In Normal mode a second needle follows: tap when it is inside the teal band. Tap early and a backhand goes left, tap late and it goes right, just like releasing too early or too late in real disc golf.

When the disc stops within 1.5 metres of the basket it is a tap-in. Out of bounds (OB) costs one throw, and from water you take your next throw from the drop zone. Lowest score wins.

Discs, height and angle

Three discs

The driver flies farthest but is harder to control. The midrange is the all-rounder for approaches and tight lines. The putter flies straight and slow, for putts and short shots. The caddy picks a disc for you if you like.

Height

Low throws slip under branches, normal is the everyday line, and high throws clear trees but fade more at the end.

Rollers and overhand throws

A roller lands on its edge after a few metres and rolls on along the ground: long on short grass, short in the rough, and it curls toward the side it leans (more anhyzer, more curl). An overhand throw goes steeply up and over a wall of trees, curls sideways and drops almost straight down. The backhand side is a thumber, the forehand side a tomahawk, and they curl in opposite directions.

What the disc lands on

Grass is the normal case. Sand swallows a landing: the disc stops almost where it lands, sprays sand and will not roll or skip. Hard, dry ground (the pine forest on Hillside Park, dirt trails and gravel) lets it skid and roll further and kicks up dust. Wooden decks and footbridges make a hard landing skid on. Tall grass grabs the disc at once.

Mandos

A sign with a red arrow marks a mando: the disc must pass that tree on the arrow's side. Miss it and you take a penalty stroke (+1) and throw from the drop zone, or rethrow from where you threw if the hole has none.

Backhand, forehand and release angle

A backhand fades left at the end of the flight, a forehand fades right (mirrored for left-handed players). A hyzer angle bends the disc with the fade, an anhyzer angle against it, so you can shape lines around trees.

Wind

Every hole has its own wind, and it gusts a little during the flight. A tailwind carries the disc but makes it fade a little sooner: throw a bit higher to ride it. A headwind makes the disc climb and turn over: add a little power and throw lower or with some hyzer. A crosswind drifts the disc sideways, so aim into it.

Casual or Normal

Casual shows the whole flight line with the wind and needs one tap for power. Normal shows only the start of the line and adds the accuracy tap. The coach can explain each miss and suggest a cleaner line, and you can switch it off any time.
